The Nizke Tatry, Low Tatras are situated right in the middle of Slovakia. Although not as dramatic as the Vysoke Tatry; their craggy northern neighbor; they are more extensive and in many parts much wilder and less frequented.
There is an excellent trekking trail that traverses the whole range, about 40km long. A series of mountain huts and disused shepherds budas provide shelter for the night. However, you will have to be self-sufficient to attempt this route.
