The Chris Tan Death Products KleeP - A DIY ClipStick

This is a ClipStick design I made from bits lying around the house. It forms part of my Mostly Harmless range of Death Products, The main cost was a Golf Ball Retriever, which I found at a car boot sale for 50p!

Construction

1. Carefully remove the insides of the Vaper. Note: The Battery is made from very volatile Lithium! < ?BOOM?> Handle with care and dispose of correctly. Drill a 5mm hole in the centre of the Vaper, about 38-40mm from the top.

2. This is the hardest step. If you have a 5mm Tap, make threads in the mouth piece. If not, use one of the 5mm Bolts and slowly cut a thread through the mouth piece. Once this is done, remove the Bolt and screw it from the inside of the Vaper body. The protruding Bolt will form the Clipper-Pole interface.

3. Now assemble the Clipper unit, by inserting the Wine Cork, then bolting the Clamp onto the Vaper body. You can adjust the mouth of the clamp to fit your preferred Carabiner,

Note: Removing the floating tabs on the clamp, may improve the fit. Experiment! That's what it's all about :-)

Finally Fix the m5 Rivet onto the Pole and screw on the Clipper unit. ( Not Shown)

4. You are now Good to Go! Enjoy!

Note 1: Taping the Gate bar will improve grip for the Clamp.
Note 2: I use an open Dogbone so that the tape sits in the crook of the clamp, taking the weight of the Rope.

Update and Test Results

1. 12 May 2024: Tested the clamp and found

  1. The downward orientation of the karabiner nose made it difficult to clip expansion bolt hangers, not too bad on glue-on bolts.
  2. This difficulty was aggravated by large clamp unit, which obscured visibility.

2. 02 Jun 2024: Version 2 Clamp and Test Results

  1. Version 2 ( See Fig. 6) uses a smaller Clamp and Vape Unit, held together by Paper Clips. This version keeps the karabiner nose near horizontal, making clipping both kinds of bolts easier. The smaller unit also reduces the visibility issue. Now in active service!
